AIMS has great plans for 2020, and we’re excited about what’s in store — for us and for the media industry.
We’ll be starting off with a significant standards-related announcement at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2020. During the show, which runs Feb. 11-14 in Amsterdam, the AIMS ProAV Working group will officially unveil Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX), a set of open standards and specifications designed to enable carriage of compressed and uncompressed video, audio, and data over IP networks.
IPMX addresses the ProAV industry’s need for a single set of common, ubiquitous standards-based protocols that ensure interoperability for AV over IP. (You can get further details in the formal press release.)
If you don’t get to see IPMX at ISE 2020, never fear! We’ll be highlighting it and its set of new standards and specifications at the 2020 NAB Show in Las Vegas. Of course, AIMS also will be helping to organize and orchestrate the IP Showcase at NAB, and we hope to see you at this year’s event.
At the 2020 NAB Show, the IP Showcase will have two core goals: to illustrate the ease and viability of leveraging media over IP for real-world deployments, and to showcase and explain the underlying technologies that make it all possible.
If you’re able to visit the IP Showcase Theater, you will hear a great deal more about the technologies and capabilities that enable IP to meet the current and future needs for media workflows. You’ll also get the chance to learn about the growing number of real-world IP deployments from the broadcasters and media providers that are already adopting IP workflows.
Just wandering around the IP Showcase, you’ll see the latest innovations in IP displayed at demonstration pods. It’s a great opportunity to see a wide range of vendors showcasing interoperability for connectivity, control and management for production, playout and distribution.
Anyone who is interested in presenting at the IP Showcase is encouraged to submit to the Call for Presentations. A presentation provides an unmatched opportunity to offer your unique viewpoint of how IP technology is transforming the broadcast industry. For 2020, the following types of presentations will be most welcome:
- Case studies from end users and their technology suppliers that describe real-world accomplishments and experiences in deploying SMPTE ST 2110 and NMOS systems.
- Basic tutorials targeted towards newcomers to the field of IP video.
- Advanced technology presentations, which describe the newest developments in standards and specifications that have recently been released or are currently in development.
The deadline for submissions is Feb. 28. For more information, or to submit a proposal, visit www.ipshowcase.org/call-for-presentations-nab-2020/.
While we’ve been putting a great deal of work into IPMX and into the IP Showcase, we’ve also had some time to join up with SMPTE to contribute to a special supplement for TVBEurope. Check it out!
AIMS and SMPTE joined forces to participate in an article for TVBEurope on the next decade’s possible impact on the media and entertainment industry — primarily from a standards perspective. SMPTE Standards Vice President Bruce Devlin and AIMS Marketing Working Group Chairman Andy Warman looked at the two groups’ shared emphasis on interoperability and some of the challenges and opportunities they see arising as the industry moves toward 2030.
