The Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) today announced that Silex Insight, a market-leading independent supplier of video IP codec and custom OEM solutions for AV, has become an AIMS member ̶̶ just as AIMS’ new Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX) set of open standards and specifications gains traction in the AV industry.

“We’re so pleased that leading AV supplier Silex Insight is now part of AIMS, as the company’s perspective and expertise will inform further work in the migration to AV over IP,” said David Chiappini, chair of the AIMS ProAV Working Group. “IMPX has drawn a great deal of interest since its introduction earlier this year, and we look forward to working with Silex Insight and other AIMS member companies to continue educating the ProAV industry on how IPMX support enables true interoperability.”

Silex Insight provides high-end image/video compression solutions and a custom OEM board (VIPER) for distributing low-latency 4K HDR video over IP. The company’s development team is based at the Silex Insight headquarters near Brussels, Belgium, while local sales and support are handled by branch offices worldwide.

“We’ve been committed for many years to open standards such as SMPTE 2110 and AES67 with our VIPER AVoIP platform” said Jean-Marie Cloquet, chief technology officer of Silex Insight, and he continues, “We’re thrilled to join an alliance that carries the same beliefs to create true interoperability in the AVoIP world.”

IPMX addresses the ProAV industry’s need for a single set of common, ubiquitous standards-based protocols that ensure interoperability for AV over IP. Implementing a standards-based approach based on SMPTE ST 2110, IPMX open standards and specifications are designed to enable carriage of compressed and uncompressed video, audio, and data over IP networks. IPMX features tailored to ProAV installations include AMWA NMOS IS-04 and IS-05 for discovery and registration, as well as connection management and specifications for copy protection and security.

With the IPMX open standards and specifications approach, AIMS presents a flexible, future-proof way to meeting the video, audio, and data requirements of current and future ProAV solutions over IP — a framework for open, easy-to-deploy solutions.
