The Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) has launched a new website dedicated to the alliance’s new Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX) proposed set of open standards and specifications.
The Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) today launched a new website dedicated to the alliance’s new Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX) proposed set of open standards and specifications. IPMX addresses the Pro AV industry’s need for a single set of common, ubiquitous, standards-based protocols that ensure interoperability for AV over IP.
“The IPMX website makes it easy for anyone to learn more about this exciting approach to AV over IP,” said David Chiappini, working group chair, Pro AV Workgroup at AIMS. “In addition to outlining the fundamentals of IPMX and the benefits it enables, the website provides up-to-date information on related events and presentations by industry experts. The site is a one-stop shop for those interested in finding out more about IPMX and how it can be implemented within their operations.”
Implementing a standards-based approach built on SMPTE ST 2110, IPMX proposes open standards and specifications designed to enable carriage of compressed and uncompressed video, audio, and data over IP networks. The proposed IPMX roadmap also includes specifications beneficial to Pro AV installations, such as AMWA NMOS IS-04 for discovery and registration and AMWA NMOS IS-05 for connection management, as well as others for copy protection and security.
The new AIMS website details the proposed IPMX roadmap, provides further information about the standards on which it is based, and offers educational and reference materials including AIMS presentations, news, and white papers focusing on IP for the media and Pro AV industries.
Despite the widespread disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, AIMS continues its work to help members of the broadcast and Pro AV industries better understand the standards and technologies driving successful adoption of IP.
One of these efforts, offered in concert with the Video Services Forum (VSF), is The Summer Sessions — Media Over IP Education. Launched in May, with a new presentation released weekly, the Summer Sessions offer a fresh perspective on media-over-IP workflows, with a strong emphasis on use cases, and explores technologies supporting the migration to IP.
So far, presentations have provided an overview of IP media technology, explained results and methodologies for recent JT-NM Tested activities, offered a case study on NMOS, and introduced IPMX. A schedule of upcoming presentations and more information about archived sessions are online at http://www.ipshowcase.org/summersessions2020/ .
AIMS also continues its work to educate broadcasters, AV professionals, and technology vendors about IPMX (Internet Protocol Media Experience), the alliance’s proposed set of open standards and specifications for the carriage of both compressed and uncompressed video, audio, and data over IP networks.
IPMX was the focus of our presence at InfoComm 2020 Connected, which was held virtually earlier this month, and AIMS will continue to participate in the virtual events and experiences that the industry is using to replace the traditional trade show.
AIMS will showcase the new Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX) proposed set of open standards and specifications and how they address the Pro AV industry’s needs.
