AIMS came into October at a full sprint, right in the middle of our first live, interactive virtual event: IP Oktoberfest 2020. Running from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, IP Oktoberfest 2020 brought together members of the broadcast and Pro AV communities to discuss the significant progress being made toward an all-IP ecosystem supporting today’s real-world media productions.

Attendance at IP Oktoberfest 2020 exceeded our hopes and expectations, and we were pleased to see attendees taking part in lively conversations about implementation of IP technology and supporting standards. Through a series of live presentations, they also got the opportunity to hear from experts on topics including AES67, NMOS, SMPTE ST 2110, JPEG XS, and IPMX and their impact on IP-based media workflows.

Not long before IP Oktoberfest 2020, we posted the last of the “Summer Sessions — Media-Over-IP Education” series, which we created in collaborate with the video Services Forum (VSF). We’re quite proud of both these educational offerings. They provided vital information on IP technologies, workflows, and standards, as well as real-world examples demonstrating how companies are moving forward with IP and finding success. (The Summer Sessions series will remain available for on-demand viewing at http://www.ipshowcase.org/summersessions2020/.)

We’ve jumped from “Summer Sessions” and IP Oktoberfest 2020 into another big event for the industry. On Oct. 13 we are partnering with AES at the AES Show Fall 2020 in hosting the industry’s first AoIP Summit. The AES Show AoIP Summit is the first in a series of audio networking summits, with each event in the series providing attendees the opportunity to learn from the experts and ask vital questions about audio over IP (AoIP) and related technologies, standards, and workflows.

Information about the AES Show Fall 2020 Convention is available at https://aesshow.com/, and details about the AES Show AoIP Summit are at http://aesshow.com/about-aoip/.

And next stop from October 19-29!  The IP Showcase, presented by AIMS, will participate in the upcoming 2020 NAB Show New York digital experience, showcasing IP-based solutions from member-vendors and highlighting ongoing educational presentations and initiatives designed to help the industry move toward all-IP infrastructure for media production. The IP Showcase will host a live channel on Oct. 19, the first day of the show, to provide attendees with an overview of current progress toward standards-based interoperability in the IP realm. Make sure to drop by and see us at the show.

While much of our focus lately has been on key industry events, we continue to update and expand information on our new website (www.ipmx.io) dedicated to the IPMX (Internet Protocol Media Experience) proposed set of open standards and specifications. The site describes IPMX in detail, explains how this standards-based (SMPTE ST 2110) approach ensures interoperability for AV over IP, and outlines specific ways IPMX can make IP-based media workflows simpler and more economical.
