If you participated in AIMS TechFest 2021 earlier this month, you know that AIMS has had a busy Q1 in 2021! The live event ran from March 9-10, with four hours of programming over two days. The first day focused on the IPMX (Internet Protocol Media Experience) proposed set of open standards and specifications, as well as the benefits IPMX offers for Pro AV workflows. The second day explored remote audio production through a series of case studies and technical presentations. Check back on www.aimsalliance.org in the near future for information on how to access videos of the session.

AIMS Chairman of the Board Mike Cronk also weighed in on standards-based IP — for both broadcast and Pro AV — with an article in TVBEurope magazine’s 2021 MediaTech Outlook. In this article, Cronk offers an overview of how the AIMS community has been promoting a standards-based approach to ensuring interoperability in IP-based media workflows.

Cronk’s article also covers topics including the foundational role of SMPTE ST 2110, the impact of implementing COTS hardware and networking, efforts by various industry organizations to streamline systems installation and configuration, and future work for AIMS, including progress with the Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX) roadmap.
