AIMS, its partners, and its membership have been busy these past few months, and more is in the works.
Back at the end of March, AMWA hosted a free virtual workshop on NMOS with two public tracks: “AMWA NMOS Node, Registry, and Controller Self-Testing” and “EBU Security Scanning Self-Testing.” The workshop provided attendees with a valuable opportunity to experiment and improve their development — with the benefit of free advice and support from AMWA and EBU experts.
While results at this event were not published, the workshop did give developers the chance to get familiar with test tools and learn how to use them successfully before the JT-NM Tested event later in the year (for which results will be published).
Several popular AIMS events took place in April. “IP Facilities: Lessons From The Front Line,” a webinar co-hosted with IBC365 on April 13, offered insights into the adoption of IP. Systems integrators, consultants, and other participants in recent IP facility projects discussed key issues and considerations for fixed and mobile facilities.
Of course, the most notable April event for AIMS was the IP Showcase at the 2022 NAB Show. Despite the many challenges of the past couple of years, the IP Showcase has continued to be a valuable source of information and insight for media organizations moving to IP. Whether in person at key industry trade shows or in an online incarnation, IP Showcase has flourished, but its return to a face-to-face format at the 2022 NAB Show was a must-see event.
This signature AIMS event focused on market requirements as media operations make the move to all-IP connectivity, content delivery to multi-screen platforms, the evolving SMPTE ST 2110 standards, and the AMWA NMOS technology stack, which is improving media workflows for deployments both large and small. Technical presentations were the star feature of the IP Showcase at the 2022 NAB Show. Most exciting of all, AIMS and its collaborator-partners — AES, AMWA, EBU, SMPTE, and VSF — provided demonstrations and resources that were designed to ease deployment for end-users.
Looking ahead to the next big in-person show, AIMS is hard at work preparing for its return to InfoComm. The alliance will be exhibiting in Booth W1067 at the 2022 show, June 8-10 in Las Vegas. Lucky attendees will be able to see the very first live interoperability demonstration of Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX) — a set of standards-based protocols designed to ensure interoperability for AV over IP. The first-of-a-kind demo will take place at AIMS Booth W1067 and will feature networking equipment and hardware and software nodes running both IPMX and SMPTE ST 2110, the standards suite on which IPMX is based. The demo will also highlight gateways between IPMX and other protocols, developer kits, and elements of IPMX-enabled AV-over-IP workflows. So, be sure to mark your calendar and keep an eye out for further details on the IPMX.io andAIMS websites. It’s an event you won’t want to miss!
In the meantime, you can keep up with AIMS’ work in shaping media over IP. In its Predictions 2022 section, TVB Europe recently featured a story titled “What’s Next for IP?” by Imagine Communications President and AIMS Chairman of the Board Steven Reynolds.

Andrew’s article presents current challenges related to EDID implementation in Pro AV and ways that IPMX might tackle them.
