PTP Over WAN

Network Timing is essential in modern IP based production environments. In Remote production scenarios, additional challenges have to be faced to provide time and frequency distribution at a quality level which is appropriate for a reliable production. This presentation gives an overview of the main challenges when transporting PTP over WANs which are mainly packet delay variation, network path asymmetries and path rearrangements. The presentation also addresses possible solutions to solve these issues and explains concepts of GPS-assisted calibration, adaptive packet filters and multi-path redundancy.
