All you really need to know about SMPTE ST2110 and IP video will be revealed today at 10:00 in the IP Showcase, in a session aimed at “anyone who has to talk intelligently about IP video and feels they don’t know enough”, according to Andrew Starks, Marketing Workgroup Chair at AIMS and Director Of Product Management, Macnica.
For the first time, AIMS hosted an interoperability demonstration of the Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX). The demo highlighted gateways between IPMX and other protocols, developer kits, and other elements of IPMX-enabled AV-over-IP workflows. And we did so live at this year’s InfoComm, where 19,500 people gathered!
First, some background. IPMX is a set of standards-based protocols designed to ensure interoperability for AV-over-IP networks. IPMX provides a common foundation that lets manufacturers build products for multiple devices at a reduced cost. The best part? It’s open-standards-based and tailored to Pro AV installations.
IPMX epitomizes our values of accessibility, ease of use, and implementation. We built IPMX through collaboration with leading companies around the world, making sure it truly serves the needs of manufacturers, integrators, and end users who are exploring the potential of AV-over-IP workflows.
At InfoComm, AIMS Board Member and Marketing Workgroup Chair Andrew Starks participated in the “Networked Audio Protocols and Use Cases ED59” panel. He talked about IPMX as a leading industry protocol and discussed its purposes, benefits, and technical execution. Above all, he reported how live demonstrations have skyrocketed an interest in the open standard, and he is confident it will move AV-over-IP forward.
On the trade show floor, the first-of-its-kind demo featured networking equipment and hardware and software nodes running both IPMX and SMPTE ST 2110, the standards suite on which IPMX is based. Demo partners included Arista Networks, Cisco Systems, IntoPix SA, Macnica, Matrox, Ross Video Limited, Stagetec GmbH, and many others.
