Built on ‘foundational’ standards work by SMPTE, VSF and AMWA, the IP Media Experience (IMPX) initiative – supported by AIMS, SMPTE, AMWA, VSF and JT-NM – looks poised to go mainstream during the next 12 months, writes David Davies.
Exhibits and Presentations Will Cover Professional Media Networking and Standards and Specifications in the AIMS Roadmap
The Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) and the Audio Engineering Society (AES) are partnering to present the Media over IP Pavilion at the upcoming AES New York 2022 show, scheduled for Oct. 19-20 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City. Over the course of the two-day convention, the Media over IP Theater will feature a regular program of 30-minute presentations — open to all AES attendees — covering a broad range of topics in audio and video over IP, as well as the standards and specifications outlined in the AIMS roadmap.
“We’re so pleased to be back at AES New York in-person and to be partnering with AES to host the Media over IP Pavilion,” said Terry Holton, AIMS Audio Group chair. “Attendees from both AES and NAB Show New York will have the opportunity to listen in on presentations focusing on the latest developments in AV-over-IP technologies and deployments. We’ll feature experts from industry associations, solutions providers, technology providers, and end users, all sharing valuable perspectives and knowledge for other professionals who are planning the transition of their own operations and businesses to IP.”
AES New York 2022 will be co-located with the 2022 NAB Show New York, also taking place at the Javits Convention Center. More information about the Media over IP Pavilion and the presentation schedule for the Media over IP Theater is available at www.aimsalliance.org. Visit AIMS at booth 550.
The promise of IPMX is that it will change everything about Pro AV by meeting the market requirements of multi-vendor interoperability that only open standards can guarantee.

All you really need to know about SMPTE ST2110 and IP video will be revealed today at 10:00 in the IP Showcase, in a session aimed at “anyone who has to talk intelligently about IP video and feels they don’t know enough”, according to Andrew Starks, Marketing Workgroup Chair at AIMS and Director Of Product Management, Macnica.
The Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) today announced that ASTRODESIGN, AVPro Edge, and Sencore have become AIMS members. The three companies join AIMS as adoption of SMPTE ST 2110 continues to accelerate in the broadcast market and as the alliance’s Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX) set of open standards and specifications gains momentum in the Pro AV industry.
“It’s exciting to see ASTRODESIGN, AVPro Edge, and Sencore become AIMS members, as growing involvement in the alliance reflects the momentum of IP adoption across both the broadcast and Pro AV industries,” said Andrew Starks, AIMS marketing work group chair. “We’re pleased to welcome our newest members and value their commitment to supporting and simplifying the migration to standards-based IP media workflows.”
AIMS facilitates close cooperation between its members and leading standards bodies to ensure that the business and technical needs of broadcasters and AV professionals are met. In doing so, the alliance drives a comprehensive, ubiquitous set of IP standards that eliminate fragmentation and maximize interoperability.
ASTRODESIGN specializes in real-time, high-speed digital signal processing technology, and the company has developed several “world’s first” products, including its many 8K devices. AVPro Edge specializes in full-bandwidth audio-video distribution. Working with HDMI, HDBaseT, and HDCP, the company develops uniquely engineered solutions for today’s integrators. Sencore is a leader in the development of reliable, cost-effective signal transmission and content monitoring solutions for the broadcast, cable, satellite, and IPTV markets.
“ASTRODESIGN is a manufacturer with long experience in designing and developing video equipment, and we are now working hard to add more AV-over-IP products to our roadmap,” said Manabe Yoshihito, executive general manager of the business division at ASTRODESIGN. “IPMX is an open standard, and we believe it is an innovative solution that will lead the future.”
“AVPro Edge has always put an emphasis on pushing technology into tomorrow, by partnering with AIMS we are doing just that, working with others in our industry to converge the worlds of IT and AV. Our expanding lineup of AV-over-IP products has been a huge success for us, and we want to ensure our lineup follows the agreed-upon standards for this type of technology,” said Jeff Murray, president, and CEO of AVPro Edge.
“Being a part of the AIMS Alliance is important to Sencore as we drive forward with SMPTE ST 2110, NMOS, IPMX, and other IP technologies,” said Aaron Doughten, senior product manager at Sencore. “It’s vital that we participate in the industry group that is promoting these standards to drive what we like to call ‘competitive collaboration’ in our industry.”

The Audio Engineering Society (AES), Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS), Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA), European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Society of Motion Picture and Technology Engineers® (SMPTE®), and the Video Services Forum (VSF) today announced the IP Showcase will be at IBC2022, live at RAI Amsterdam, Sept. 9-12, in Rooms G102/G103.
“We’re very excited that the IP Showcase will be part of the show this year,” said Andrew Starks, marketing workgroup chair at AIMS. “So much has happened since we last met in person in Amsterdam. While we’ve done a lot in the virtual realm to keep up the momentum of IP adoption, the IP Showcase at IBC2022 will be a fantastic opportunity for us to report the progress our organizations have made with IP standards, share user stories, and provide resources people can use as they make plans to transition to open-standards IP technology.”
The IP Showcase is committed to educating attendees at major industry events on the business and creative potential of IP media solutions. At IBC2022, the IP Showcase will be focused on the progress in SMPTE ST 2110, AES 67, and IPMX that supports scalable, flexible, affordable, and accessible IP media systems and continues to address market requirements as media operations move toward all-IP connectivity and content delivery to multiscreen platforms. IP Showcase organizers are hosting both technical presentations and demonstrations that provide useful guidance and examples to media organizations making this critical shift.
IBC2022 attendees can learn more about work happening within SMPTE, AES, EBU, VSF, and AMWA; how the evolving SMPTE ST 2110 standards and the AMWA NMOS technology stack are improving media workflows; and how the Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX) proposed set of open standards and specifications is being implemented, and its future possibilities. Along with technical paper presentations on these and other topics, the IP Showcase will feature basic tutorials tailored to newcomers in the field of IP video production, as well as case studies from real-world installations.
